How Sustainable Was the Internet This Year? ๐ŸŒŽ

It's been quite a year! Let's see how 2022 stacked up, sustainably speaking.

More than 5 billion people around the world use the internet. That's 63.5% of the population! (Source: DataReportal, 2022)  There are approximately  2 billion websites on the internet.  (Source: Hosting Tribunal) Over 50% of all website traffic comes from mobile devices.  (Source: Statista) But what does this mean  for the environment?  Well...NOT-SO-FUN FACTS:  Digital technologies account for  4% of all greenhouse gases.  By 2025, these emissions are  predicted to double. The average website produces  60kg of C02 every year. THE GOOD NEWS: There are ways for developers to reduce the carbon footprint of their websites. THE EVEN BETTER NEWS: These ways also make websites more accessible for everyone.
